AMERICAN DISCOVERY TRAIL
starts at Cape Henlopen, Delaware

First conceived by Backpacker magazine and the American Hiking Society more than a decade ago, the 6,300-mile American Discovery Trail now links 15 states and the District of Columbia, 14 national parks, 16 national forests and 10,000 sites of cultural, historical and natural significance. More than 32 million people live within 20 miles of the trail, and 100.5 million live in the states through which the trail passes.

The American Discovery Trail is also one of 16 National Millennium Trails, joining the Appalachian Trail, the Iditarod, and other major routes in a federally recognized program.

In celebration of the American Discovery Trail's Grand Opening Year, a team of four people will travel the route between April and September. For Motor Company, the Exclusive Automotive Sponsor of the American Discovery Trail, is also the sponsor of the ADT Ford Adventure Team. Updates on the team's progress will be posted at www.backpacker.com.

Along the route, the ADT Ford Adventure team will be outfitted with a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac, the first SUV of its type on the road. Combining the interior comfort of a four-door sport utility vehicle with an open rear cargo area for added versatility, the Explorer Sport Trac is a unique evolution of today's four-door Explorer, the best-selling SUV in the industry.
